DIY Dried Orange Garland
I started making dried orange garlands a few years back after seeing them over on Instagram. I’m not sure when or why this tradition of dried orange garlands started but it’s definitely an Instagram craze that I can get behind. These little guys are the cutest decoration for the season, plus, they’re biodegradable and add the loveliest scent to your home.
I posted a photo of some garlands I was making for a project over on Insta the other day and you guys really liked it. Like, really really liked it! I got so many DMs and questions about how I made them so I wanted to give you a full blog post on them.
Trust me- they are so much easier than they seem!
What you’ll need:
-Oranges (5/6 oranges fills my two cookie sheets perfectly!)
-Sharp knife
-Cookie sheet
-Parchment paper
-Scissors
-String
-Darning Needle
-Paper towels
Instructions:
-Set oven to 250F
-Line cookie sheet with parchment paper
-Cut oranges into 1/4 inch slices. Try to make sure all the slices are the same thickness to avoid burning
-Arrange oranges on the cookie sheet. Edges can touch here, the oranges will shrink significantly while they bake
-Before putting these guys into the oven pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any surface moisture
-Bake on one side for 1 hour, flip and then bake for another hour. Be sure to check in after the 1 hour mark occasionally, when these babies burn, they burn fast!
-String oranges on twine or string using the daring needle. See photos or my IGTV video for more notes on the stringing method I use!
-Enjoy!
I hope you guys give this a try for the holidays! I’ve made so many garlands this year. They’re filling up every corner of my home!
